“The Solution is Inner Reform” – Brilliant Perspective From My Twin Brother Ryan Wolfington
My twin brother Ryan Wolfington wrote this powerful op-ed expressing his thoughts about the recent presidential election. I hope you enjoy his words of wisdom as much as I do, and if you’re interested in learning more about Ryan and his work as founder of the Inspiring Children Foundation, click here.
“THE VOTE”
My happiness never was, nor will be in the hands of Donald Trump, Hilliary Clinton or anyone else for that matter. I’m the commander and chief of my well being and always will be.
We are not governed by politics and policies, but by principles and the overwhelming power of good. This good transcends who governs our politics. The real question for me is, who governs my soul? Who do I vote for in each moment? Do I follow what I know is right in my personal choices, or am I persuaded by false arguments? The biggest fallacy is that our happiness comes from another person, place or thing; or what type of leader we have elected. If my happiness is tied to these outside forces am I to be unhappy every time something happens that I can not control?
Happiness, security, peace of mind, all come from within. By choosing what YOU KNOW to be right, in each moment of your life, you can feel right and be the President of your United States, of mind; A nation of one, connected responsibly to the nation of every human being. At the core of everyone is the same person, armed with a shared humanity, faced with the same challenge; “to do (what we know is right), or not to do. That is the question.”
If Donald Trump or Hilliary Clinton or anyone else chooses to follow what they know is wrong, they will feel wrong. That is not something I am going to vote for, and I hope they don’t either, for their sake. Regardless, I vote for freedom. I vote for honesty. I vote for compassion, the power of the individual to do what is right, and change the world by doing so. I vote for inclusion, kindness, integrity and the virtue that comes from tapping into and following a Holy Spirit, not a negative one.
I vote for ethics, the celebration of all ethnicities, cultures, backgrounds, all into one melting pot of love, mixed with empathy, understanding, stillness and peace. I vote for the truth that we are all the same, there is no difference. I choose to welcome and love all of life, including children, inmates, nature, Hispanics, entrepreneurs, Clinton, Trump, Jesus, Muhammad, Mexico and Brexit. I carry no ill will, negativity or the belief that people are any different than me, or that my happiness is anyone else’s responsibility but my own. I’m a liberal-conservative-libertarian that understands there are only two types of people; those who follow what they know is right, and feel right, and those that do not. This is not about a divided country but those who are divided within themselves. The solution is not politics. The solution is inner reform.
This election exists every day and we can vote for what ever life we want. Do not rejoice in a past days victory, or begrudge yesterdays loss. The only thing that matters is who you are voting for now. -Ryan Wolfington
